Quick Reference

A blue copper-binding ferroxidase (dehydrogenase) (EC, 1065 aa) with six or seven cupric ions per molecule, found in plasma (200–500 mg/mL). Apparently involved in copper detoxification and storage, and in iron transport across the cell membrane. Mutation in the ceruloplasmin gene causes aceruloplasminemia and is associated with iron accumulation in tissues. See Wilson's disease.
