Diterpene in coffee oil, associated with reversible hypercholesterolaemia and hypertriglyceridaemia, and also possibly an anticarcinogenic effect by enhancement of phase II metabolism (see metabolism, phase II) of foreign compounds. Released into the beverage only when coffee is boiled for a prolonged period of time. See also kahweol.
