A chronic inflammation of the shoulder, with calcium deposition in the subacromial bursa. Calcification shoulder may result from impingement of the subacromial bursa between the acromion and the supraspinatus tendon on the shoulder blade. It is associated with repetitive overarm motions that trap the subacromial bursa between the rotator cuff tendons and the underside of the shoulder blade. Degeneration of the tendons associated with ageing, may contribute to this condition. Calcified rotator cuff tendons usually require surgical treatment.
