Quick Reference

A family of endogenous calcineurin inhibitors. Calcipressin 1 (Down's syndrome critical region protein 1, DSCR1, myocyte-enriched calcineurin-interacting protein 1, MCIP1, Adapt 78, 252 aa) inhibits calcineurin-dependent transcriptional responses by binding to the catalytic domain of calcineurin A and is highly expressed in heart, brain, and skeletal muscle. When phosphorylated it is more active but has a shorter half-life. Calcipressin 2 (197 aa) and calcipressin 3 (241 aa) are similar but with different tissue distribution.
