Quick Reference

A periodontal index used to measure the presence of calculus (supra- and subgingival) on the four mandibular incisors. The mesial, distal, labial, and lingual surfaces are examined and each tooth is assigned a number from 0 to 4 according to the number of surfaces on which calculus is recorded. The CSI is the total number of calculus-covered surfaces (maximum 16).
