Overview

caldesmon

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A protein (793 aa) with several tissue-specific isoforms that is implicated in the regulation of actomyosin interactions in smooth muscle and nonmuscle cells by stimulating the binding of tropomyosin to actin filaments. In muscle, inhibits the actomyosin ATPase in a calcium-sensitive fashion by binding to F-actin. Has an important role in mitosis and receptor capping. Caldesmon can block the effect of gelsolin on F-actin and will dissociate actin–profilin complexes.
