Quick Reference

American land-scape-architect. He worked with Mies van der Rohe on the Illinois Institute of Technology (from 1938), and with Hilbersheimer at Lafayette Park, Detroit, MI (1955–9). From his early work with Jens Jensen he adopted the latter's so-called Prairie style, which he used at Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL (c. 1936–7), and from Hilbersheimer he acquired theories of regionalism, decentralization, and low-rise high-density developments. He wrote Architecture and Nature (1984), about his own work.
