US dancer. She studied locally and from 1971 at the School of American Ballet, a pupil of Danilova. In 1974 she joined New York City Ballet becoming principal in 1983. A versatile dancer, she danced lead roles in numerous Balanchine and Robbins works, also creating roles in Martins's Histoire du soldat (1981); Robbins's Piano Pieces (1981), Gershwin Concerto (1982), Glass Pieces (1983), Eight Lines (1985), and Ives Songs (1988); in Tharp and Robbins's Brahms/Handel (1984); and in LaFosse's Waltz Trilogy (1991). She left the company in 1994, teaching at various institutions, including her own school in Connecticut between 2002 and 2004, and giving occasional performances, her last in 2004. She has also worked for the Balanchine Trust since 1996 and the Robbins Rights Trust since 2003, staging those two choreographers' ballets around the world.

She has made several television appearances and married to dancer Bart Cook.
