A heel blackened with specks of blood that have seeped out of dermal capillaries ruptured by shear forces. Black heel is common in participants of sports such as badminton, basketball, and soccer, who repeatedly sprint short distances and stop suddenly. No treatment is required, except reassurance. However, it is important to distinguish black heel from a malignant melanoma.
