Protestant theologian. He was professor of theology at Helmstedt from 1614. He tried to build up a theological system (syncretism) which would reconcile Lutherans, Calvinists, and Catholics on the basis of the Scriptures, the Apostles' Creed, and the faith of the first five centuries.
