A form of nystagmus resulting from the introduction of warm or cold fluid into the ear, stimulating the dynamic labyrinth and eliciting a rotation of the eyeballs towards the stimulated side if the stimulating fluid is warm, and away from the stimulated side if it is cold. Also called Bárány nystagmus. See also Bárány test, vestibulo-ocular reflex. [From Latin calor heat + Greek nystagmos nystagmus, from nystazein to nap]
