One of the saptamātṛkās, a popular and terrible manifestation of the Goddess (Devī), who, according to the Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa, sprang as Kālī from the forehead of the goddess Ambikā (Durgā) in order to destroy the asuras Caṇḍa and Muṇḍa. Iconographically, she is similar to, or indistinguishable from Kālī, appearing as a skeletal hag, garlanded with skulls, and brandishing various lethal weapons.
