A computerized data base on all deaths recorded in Canada, maintained continuously since 1950. All death certificates are permanently stored on microfiche, and the relevant information on them is extracted into machine-readable form to permit record linkage. The national record linkage system enables causes of death to be related to relevant occupational, environmental, and medical information in long-term historical cohort studies.
