Formerly known as the Canadian Task Force on the Periodic Health Examination, this expert committee was established in 1974 to assess the evidence on efficacy of routine physical examinations. It broadened in scope to consider and evaluate a wide range of screening procedures and preventive interventions. Its contributions include the concept of the hierarchy of evidence and definitive evaluations of a wide range of screening procedures. It has produced many reports, which are available at http://www.ctfphc.org/. It was the model for the US Preventive Services Task Force.
