Canaries Current

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Cool, oceanic water current, which flows south along the continental margin of Spain, Portugal, and W. Africa. This slow-moving eastern boundary current is the cause of frequent sea fogs off north-west Spain and Portugal. The water is further cooled by upwelling of cold water off W. Africa.
