also known as

Netherlandish architect and painter. He worked under Vasari at the Vatican before settling in Munich in 1586, where he worked on the frescoes in the Grottenhalle (grotto-hall) in the Residenz (Seat of the Court) that had been designed by Sustris: indeed, he also appears to have acted as architect. From 1611 he was recognized as the leading painter at the Court, designed many tapestries and grotesques, and was responsible for painted decorative schemes at the Altes Schloss (Old Castle), Schleissheim (1617), and the Goldener Saal (Golden Hall) in the Rathaus (Town Hall), Augsburg (1619).
