A group of related compounds found in cannabis that mimic the actions of endogenous agonists anandamide and palmitoyl ethanolamine. The major cannabinoids are cannabidiol, cannabidol, and various tetrahydrocannabinols (THCs). The receptors are G-protein coupled; the CB1 type is mostly found in brain where it mediates psychotropic activities, the CB2 receptors are more peripheral and found extensively in the immune system.
