A singing hillbilly comic who was very popular on screen and on the radio, her yodeling and broad clowning were unique in her day, especially for a female entertainer. Canova was born in Starke, Florida, and began her career singing, playing the guitar, and yodeling in a night-club act with her two siblings. She was soon dubbed the “Jenny Lind of the Ozarks” and the “Queen of Corn” and was featured in twenty movie musicals, mostly B pictures at Republic Studios and usually with members of her
