The number of capillaries to each muscle fibre. A high capillary-to-fibre ratio allows the blood to more fully perfuse muscle tissue. Trained athletes have a significantly higher capillary-to-fibre ratio (up to 1.6) than untrained individuals (averaging about 1.0).
