Any one of a number of pathological conditions that involve dysfunction of the heart and vascular system. These conditions include coronary heart disease, atheroma, rheumatic heart disease, and systemic hypertension. Studies have shown an association between periodontal disease and an increased risk of stroke and coronary heart disease, demonstrating the importance of minimized oral disease.
