(1787–1861), ecclesiastical historian. Educated at Brasenose College, Oxford, he became Camden Professor of Ancient History in 1825, and Principal of St Alban Hall in 1831, in succession to R. Whately, an office which he held till his death. He issued through the University Press, in the administration of which he took a prominent part, several collections of documents still of great value to the student of English Church history, notably Documentary Annals of the Reformed Church of England (2 vols., 1839), A History of Conferences…connected with the Revision of the BCP (1840), and Synodalia (2 vols., 1842).
