Trainee and newly qualified teachers (NQTs) are required to fill in a CEDP, in consultation with their tutor or mentor, at three ‘transition points’ in their development. The first is towards the end of their initial teacher training (ITT), the second and third at the beginning and end of the induction process. The profile sets out their goals, their achievements, and their development needs. The school which employs the NQT can refer to the CDP in order to set objectives for the induction period in order to ensure that the NQT reaches the required induction standards. The statutory requirements for ITT state that all providers of ITT must ensure that trainee teachers have a CEDP and are supported in completing it.
