Quick Reference

A large square net made of rope in which cased or packaged cargo is slung into and out of a ship's hold. While modern methods of loading and unloading ships, such as the container and ro-ro ship, have made obsolete this method of handling cargo, there are still some smaller merchant ships which use it in the more remote corners of the world.
