Quick Reference

An English variation of the Salvator Rosa picture frame, it was so called because it was first found on works by Maratta (1625–1713). In its enriched form (for example with acanthus leaf moulding in the centre scotia) the Maratta frame was especially popular in England in the 18th century when the great Grand Tour collections were being formed.
