Quick Reference

Malevolent female figure in early Irish tradition, perhaps a divinity. Together with her three sons, Dian [violent, fierce], Dub [dark, black], and Dothur [wicked, evil], she blighted the crops of Ireland until the superior magic of the Tuatha Dé Danann drove her sons across the sea. She was held captive; later a festival, Óenach Carman, localized in Wexford, was held in her honour.
