Quick Reference

(order Primates, suborder Plesiadapiformes)

An extinct family of Palaeocene and Eocene primates that were animals about the size of shrews, probably lived on the forest floor, and may have been herbivorous. They had nails rather than claws on the opposable thumb and big toe, enlarged, chisel-like incisors, and enlarged lower premolars. The ear region of the skull is reminiscent of lemuroids.
