Quick Reference

One of the ways devices on a network access the network in order to transmit data, for example when sending a message to a server or sending a reply to a client. Using this technique each device signals to the other devices on the network its intention to transmit before it carries out the procedure. This enables other devices which might be about to send data to hold back so that data packets do not cause a collision when two of them are simultaneously released into the network.
