carrier sense multiple access collision detection

Quick Reference

A technique whereby computers on a network transmit data into the network over a transmission line. A computer using this technique first checks that the transmission line is not carrying data; if it is not then the transmitted data is released into the network. If another computer issues data at the same time and a collision occurs, then each computer rolls back, waits for a random time period, and attempts to retransmit.
