A campaign by the American journal Arts and Architecture was started after the 1939–45 war in order to promote architecturally superior yet inexpensive dwellings, employing up-to-date building methods and modern materials. The leading light was John Dymock Entenza (1903–84), editor and publisher of the journal, and the most widely publicized houses were by Eames, Ellwood, and Koenig (whose Case Study houses 21 and 22 (1958–60), Hollywood, CA, made his name, partly through the stunning photography of Julius Shulman (1910–2009).
