It. composer and pianist. Early influence was Mahler, later Boulez, but returned to tonality and tradition. Taught in Amer. univs. 1966–71; returned to It. 1971 to teach at Milan Cons. Comps. incl. 2 operas; Synchromie, orch. (1962–3); Solemn Music II, sop., chamber orch. (1964–5); sym. in C, ch., orch. (1968–9); Alef, solo ob. (1971); Inverno in‐ver, chamber orch. (1972); Quodlibet, pf., chamber orch. (1976); works for th.; and a radio opera (1961) based on Carroll's Alice books.
