French ballet critic. From the early 1820s to 1832 his writings in the Journal des débats made him the leading ballet critic in Paris. Several of his works became standard reference works, among them La Danse et le ballet depuis Bacchus jusqu'à Mlle Taglioni (1832), L'Académie Impériale de Musique…de 1645 à 1855 (published in three volumes, 1847–55); and L'Opéra italien, 1548–1856 (Paris, 1856).
