French composer. Joined band of Garde National de Paris, for which wrote new mus. Became répétiteur at Opéra until 1803. Prof. of harmony and counterpoint at new Paris Cons. from 1795. Comp. many Revolutionary marches and hymns. Best known for Les bayardères (1810).
