Quick Reference

A rather general term, used specifically of arginine-rich proteins found in the azurophil granules of neutrophils. Eosinophil cationic protein (160 aa), found in the granules, has weak ribonuclease activity but more importantly is helminthotoxic and will damage schistosomula. It is also responsible for neurotoxicity (the Gordon phenomenon).
