cavity design

Quick Reference

The process of preparing a cavity for a restorative material. In a carious tooth it involves first gaining access to and removing the caries. The cavity design should be such as to protect the remaining tooth tissue and optimize the strength of the restoration. The shape and angulation of the surfaces of the cavity will be dictated by the choice of restorative material e.g. amalgam, resin composite, or gold.
