A spectrometer that uses a charge-coupled device (CCD) to measure the energy of incident photons. CCD spectrometers can be sensitive to a wide range of wavelengths, from infrared and optical to ultraviolet and X-rays. Each incident photon generates electrons in the CCD, the number of which is proportional to the energy of the original photon.
