The author, or compiler, of the most important Tamil Śaiva hagiographical work, the Periya Purāṇam (‘Great Purāṇa’) (also known as the Tiruttoṇṭarpurāṇam), which deals with the lives of the Nāyaṉmār. Using the life story of Cuntarar, the sixty-third Nāyaṉār, to tell the stories of the other sixty-two, it was added to the Tirumuṟai as its twelfth and last book. Cēkkil-ār is said to have been a Cōl-a minister, who composed his Purāṇa in Cidambaram.
