The control of white space around a table in a Web page. Cell padding has been extensively used by Web designers to format text and graphics on a Web page where the text and graphics are embedded in tables. However, its use is declining with the increasing availability of WYSIWYG authors. This is an example of a shim. See also pixel shim.
