cellular radio system

Quick Reference

A full-duplex, digital, or analogue telephone transmission system which uses radio frequencies. Rather than having powerful transmitters covering a given region, it is divided up into smaller areas or cells which can be covered by less powerful transmitters. The cells are linked together to form a network controlled by a centralized Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO) which ensures that every time a mobile phone moves in or out of the range of a given cell, the call is switched over to an adjacent cell.
