A diagnostic extra-oral radiograph of the head characterized by a standardized relationship between x-ray source, subject, and film position. The generally accepted distance between the centre of the subject and the x-ray source is 5 feet (152.4 cm). The distance between the subject and the film is usually 5 inches (12 cm); it is used to show jaw and cranial relationships.
