(c.1545–1608), Spanish painter, sculptor, architect, and poet, born near Toledo. He travelled to Rome to study oriental languages, and there began to paint. He settled in Córdoba in 1575 and spent the rest of his career as a painter. His best-known painting is The Last Supper (1595, Córdoba Cathedral). He also composed a poem on the art of painting (Poema de la pintura), which survives only in fragments.
