Quick Reference

(Pāli). A group of six monks mentioned in the Theravāda Vinaya Piṭaka who are regarded as exemplifying monastic misconduct. Probably not historical characters, their names are recorded as Assaji, Punabbasu, Panduka, Lohitaka, Mettiya, and Bhummajaka. Despite this, later orthodox historiography elaborates on the historical personae of the group.
