‘Shrine Mountain’. Mountain near Anurādhapura in Sri Lanka.also known as Missakapabbata and Cetiyagiri. It derives its name from the number of religious sites that came to be built there. It is said to be the point at which Mahinda descended on the island after travelling through the air from India to bring Buddhism to Sri Lanka, and the site of the second vihāra to be built in the country, which housed Mahinda and his retinue.
