was associated with Garrison as treasurer of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society and as an editor of the Liberator. She wrote many abolitionist articles, and her Life of Harriet Martineau (1877) was the result of a long personal friendship. She sponsored the publication of The Liberty Bell (1839–58).
