The spinach-like leaves and broad midrib of Beta vulgaris var. cicla, also known as leaf beet, leaf chard, sea kale beet, silver beet, white leaf beet, spinach beet. A 100‐g portion (boiled) is a rich source of vitamin A (as carotene); a good source of vitamin C; a source of iron; supplies 18 kcal (72 kJ).
The name is also used for blanched summer shoots of globe artichoke and for inner leaves of cardoon, Cynara cardunculus.
