the youngest child of Colley Cibber, early displayed a fondness for masculine dress and pursuits, was widowed in 1737 after an early marriage to a violinist, and pursued a varied career as waiter, pastry cook, strolling player, etc. Her Narrative of the Life of Mrs Charlotte Charke (1775) vividly describes her family background and later misfortunes.
