Quick Reference

Records from the Court of Chancery, dating from 1199 to 1517, of royal grants of land or rights, and confirmations of such grants. They are housed at The National Archives under C 53 and have all been published. Those for the reign of King John (1199–1216) were printed by the Record Commissioners in 1837, the rest in six volumes as Calendar of Charter Rolls (1903–27). They are particularly important for the study of the history of boroughs.
