The brand name for a chemical sterilizer which uses vaporized alcohols, ketones, and formaldehyde, and is steam heated to 127°C (261°F) under a minimum pressure of 20 pounds per square inch. This type of equipment is not appropriate for sterilizing reusable dental instruments as the process is difficult to validate. Reusable dental instruments should be sterilized in a vacuum steam sterilizer following appropriate cleaning and decontamination. See also sterilizer.
