Archbishop of Canterbury. The son and brother of prominent London merchants, Chichele was an original fellow of New College, Oxford. From 1406 he was in royal service as an ambassador, earning the bishopric of St Davids, and in 1414 promotion to Canterbury from Henry V. In 1438 he founded the college of All Souls, Oxford.
