An offence under s 1 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933. A person aged 16 or over with responsibility for a child under the age of 16 is guilty of an offence of child cruelty if he wilfully assaults, ill‐treats, neglects (including by failing to provide adequate food, clothing, lodging, or medical aid), abandons or exposes him in a manner likely to cause him unnecessary suffering or injury to health, or causes or procures him to be so treated. The offence is triable either way.
