Statutory legislation which defined orders with respect to the welfare of children in the following areas: reform of the law relating to children; provision for children in need; amendments to the law with regards to fostering, children's homes, childminding, day care, and adoption; children in family proceedings; local authority support for children and families, including looked‐after children; care and supervision orders and powers of the court; protection of children; statutory supervisory functions and responsibilities.This Act brought together, under one framework, a whole raft of legislation with regard to children, young people, and the law over the previous half‐century. It was superseded by the Children Act 2004.
